Behind the company is Chris Swanton. More years ago than he cares to remember, Chris was a student of German at King’s College London, where he first encountered Metamorphosis and fell completely under its spell.

After his degree in German, Chris worked in sales for a year but hankered after the academic world, so returned to King’s to begin a PhD and teach at a junior level. Two years later he moved to West Germany to teach at a university in Bavaria. During this time he spent a fascinating summer studying the production techniques of Bertolt Brecht with the Berliner Ensemble at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm in what was then East Germany.

After returning to the UK, Chris taught at a local comprehensive school, but then had a complete change of direction, joining the BBC to work in the cutting rooms of the Film Department at Ealing Studios.

Chris remained with the BBC for 16 years, winning a BAFTA for his contribution to the acclaimed series Edge of Darkness and being nominated in the following year for the Falklands drama, Tumbledown. During all these years he has tried to interest others in making a film version of Metamorphosis in the hope that someone would do it, but nobody was willing to risk such a venture.

Unfortunately, the desire to see the story on screen just wouldn’t go away, so now, finally, Chris has begged and borrowed and staked much of his own resources on this attempt. It is a huge risk but if he didn’t do it, he would always regret it and live on as a miserable old sod.
